Buying A New Drill Press

The tool that seemed to almost always be needed in my shop lately has been a drill press. I use forstner bits all the time and my poor little cordless drill just can’t keep up.

At Skiatook, I ended up making a little money and I knew I wanted to use that for a new tool and put that money back into the shop. So yesterday, I broke down and purchased a new drill press. I only really make smaller things, so I knew I didn’t want anything too crazy big!

The options I was thinking of were,

  • Craigslist
  • Harbor Freight
  • Big box store – Home Depot or Lowes

So I went to Harbor Freight.

I ended up purchasing the 10″, 12 speed drill press. This one!

Well, I brought it home and started to assemble it, as it came in a box. I start unboxing everything, and find the instructions. After getting all the parts out and on the workbench, I dove into the directions. Holy hell, Harbor Freight, you could have written some better instructions! Within the first minute of reading the FIRST thing I was confused! But luckily, I figured it out. I did have to consult some friends on the last task which was putting the arbor on the spindle. But got it and it works!

Can’t wait to use this in the future. As for the near future, I plan on building a temporary fence/gate for my dog and just waiting on the hairpin legs for the my coffee table project using the Osage Orange slab I got from Ted Alexander. You should check out Ted’s channel!! –> Here
